Memorial Weekend

For Memorial Weekend we went to Matagorda. This was exciting for a few reasons...1. The house was complete in its renovations, 2. This was Gabe's first time to Matagorda- yes, after 9+ years of dating and marriage, he had never been, 3. We were finally going as a family, 4. As always... Mom's cooking, and 5. Time with the family!

We went to the beach on Saturday. This was my first time back to this beach in about 15 years!! I couldn't believe it when I actually had to stop and think about it. And we used to go to Matagorda all the time when I was younger. Well, it felt like all of the time when I was a child. It holds a lot of memories for me.
This time to the beach wasn't a very fun memory, unfortunately. There was lots of seaweed, TONS of mosquitos, some other kind of green bug that stung when it landed on you, and I was afraid my kids were going to get run over. Crazy! This one definitely won't go down in the record books as "FUN AT THE BEACH!" :) I think we stayed maybe a hour...oh well.

The rest of the weekend was spent lounging. If you ask my Mom, she would say that this is Sandra's and my favorite thing to do. :)
We did have a few good laughs, a poker tourney, and good food. And a trip to Matagorda will never be complete without an adventure with my Dad and his boat. Lucky for Gabe he was one of the victims to my Dad's boat breaking down in the middle of the river and then floating back home. Lol! I like to refer to this as his initiation. Lol!

First Time To The Movies

We took the kids to the movies for the first time. I was a little nervous about the whole situation...I didn't know how Sophie was going to react- she likes some movies, but usually doesn't sit still for the whole thing, and I wasn't sure how quiet Zach would be- we all know how much he talks and how LOUD he talks! :)

We took them to see Shrek Forever After. I didn't want to tell them where we were going because I wanted to see their reactions once we turned into the parking lot of the movie theater. They were both in rotten moods when we left the house, but that quickly turned around once we got there. They were both excited, even not knowing what to expect.

We found our seats...well, it wasn't hard. We were the only ones in there! Lol! I thought, this is going to be great. No one will be disrupted if the kids are talking or moving around. But a few other people showed up before the movie started, but it was still okay. It was almost as if they weren't even there.

I think the kids really liked it. And they did really well. A lot better than I thought. Sophie switched seats a couple of times and was more interested in the popcorn and coke a few times and Zach did a little talking/asking questions about the movie, but that is to be expected. They are only 2 & 4!!
So I guess it will be a definite that we will be seeing Toy Story 3 when it comes out in a few weeks. :) Zach and Sophie have been watching the first two like crazy. First it was "The Sandlot" and now it is "Toy Story 1 & 2."

Finally, A Guy's Trip!

Gabe, Floyd, and Uncle Tony went to Las Vegas for their "guys trip." I thought I would share a few pictures of their time there. I know they had a great time together and are already talking about when they can go back!!

You're Killin' Me Smalls!!

Here they are... remember when I said that they love "The Sandlot?" I walked in my room and I found them laying on the floor together watching the movie. Too funny!

What's really funny is when they start quoting lines from the movie. Like, "You're killin' me Smalls," or "For-ev-errrrrr!" Cracks me up!

And Sophie, I think, is now infatuated with Benny from the movie. She will walk around saying, "Benny. Benny. Benny." And she carries the case to the movie with her everywhere! Seriously, the movie went to IHop with us, in the car, to the store...it's crazy! Lol!

Happy Mother's Day!

We had a nice, relaxing Mother's Day. Gabe surprised me with kolaches and donuts for breakfast and a very nice gift. I had told him not to get me anything (seriously), but he claims that he didn't get it....the kids did. Hahaha! Sooooo, are you ready to know what they got me?? I have been needing one for quite a while now... a new (little) camera!! We realized that I had had my old one for seven years and it only had four megapixels!!!! Talk about dated!!! So, thank you Zachary & Sophie...Mommy really likes her gift. I really, really needed a new one!!!! :)

And of course, I got some beautiful flowers and a sweet, sweet card from my hubby.

We didn't do too much. Gabe had to work a half day and when he got home, we made a trip to the grocery store and came home to grill some steaks for dinner. And I got a chance to play with my camera!

Let's Play Catch!

Finally... he's interested in a sport (a little bit)! While Gabe was grilling, Zach wanted to throw the ball around. He can throw pretty well. In fact, we had to switch to a wiffle ball so that he wouldn't break any windows or anything. But he does need some practice with the catching. But at least he's trying!! Way to go Zach!!
I think this sudden interest in baseball has come from watching "The Sandlot." Gabe watched the movie with the kids one day, and ever since then, they have both watched it like crazy. Especially Sophie. She doesn't even watch that much t.v. or cartoons, but this, she will watch and watch. Kind of crazy.

Not Just Cinco De Mayo

May 5th...not just Cinco De Mayo...it's also my parents' wedding anniversary. This year they celebrated 48 years together!!! 48 years!!! WOW!!!

Happy Birthday Dad!!!! He turned 74 on May 1st. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see my Dad this year on his birthday. But I shared a photo from last year. Look how little Sophie is!!

What A Week!

What a busy week! Nothing real interesting...just thought I would share how I drove ALL over Texas in a week's time. :)
I returned from Galveston on Sunday afternoon.
On Monday, we had Tyler's Confirmation and Gabe was his sponsor. The kids did pretty good while we were at the church, considering we were there for 3 hours!! We then had dinner (mexican, of course).
My parents were in town and they invited us (me & the kids) to go to Matagorda with them for a couple of days. The work on the inside of the house is done, but now they are getting a few things done to the outside. A new paint job for the house and garage and new driveway...it doesn't even look like the same house!
So, we left on Tuesday morning. We were there until Thursday morning.
Thursday was a long day. We drove the 2 1/2 hours back to Cypress. I then had to drive to Humble for a close friend's mom's funeral.
My Dad really wanted to drive back to Matagorda because the work on the house wasn't completed yet, so I offered to drive my Mom back home to Limestone.
My Mom, the kids, and I left for Limestone at 6pm Thursday night. We stopped in Bryan to eat dinner and made it to her house after 9pm. Whew! Thank the Lord, it was bedtime!
On Friday, we drove home to unpack, wash some laundry, and repack because on Saturday, we were leaving again.
This time we were heading to Corpus, but unfortunately not for a good reason. Gabe's Uncle Gabriel had passed away. We had the viewing and Rosary on Sunday and the funeral on Monday morning.
On Tuesday, we headed back home...finally!
Two funerals and three different road trips are enough for one week...let me tell ya! It was so nice to be home and back in my own bed.

Girls Galveston Weekend

Yes, it was that time again (finally)....it was Sister's Inc. weekend!!!!! It started off with Dallas coming to Cypress on Friday night, we had dinner with Jayne and hung out. On Saturday morning, we packed up and picked Tabitha and Ashley up at the airport. We then drove to Galveston for some fun in the sun.
We stayed at the San Luis hotel. Tabitha's sister and her friends get together here every year and we decided to join in this year.
We laid out, ate lunch by the pool, swam a little (to cool off), and got some sun.
We later went to Olympia's to eat dinner. This was a Greek/seafood restaurant. It was pretty good. We then hit up the night scene. Not sure where we ended up at, but we had a great time! We wanted a place where we could hear some music and dance...just like the good 'ol days! :)







Thanks for a great weekend girls. It never fails...we always have a unforgettable time.

While in Corpus, we got to have yet another epic night with some friends. We went to Cassidy's and then followed up at Uncle Tony's again. All I can say is that there is never a dull moment!

Kelly's Baby Shower

For the weekend, we went to Corpus for Kelly's baby shower. We drove down on Friday (after the garage sale- yes, I know, I'm crazy. But I did make about $200). We had dinner at Uncle Tony's restaurant (mmmm, love their shrimp tacos!) and then went home to rest up for the shower on Saturday.
The shower was a huge success! We had lots of food and goodies, the games were fun, Kelly got lots of good stuff for Baby Kaleb, and we got to visit with lots of family and friends. And I was lucky to have some adult only time. Both Zach and Sophie went with Daddy and Papo for the afternoon. They hung out with Cousin Lauren at her house.


The theme of the shower was moons and stars and the decorations/balloons were so cute.
