Day Trip to Austin

The kids and I made a day trip to Austin with Aunt Becky to visit Danni.  The following week was her 21st Birthday (holla!), I hadn't seen her apartment yet, and it sounded like something fun to do!

So we set off at about 10ish.  We couldn't leave too early because it was the middle of the week and Danni does have classes still.  :)

Becky wanted to hit up one of the museums while we waited for Danni to get out of class.  They were having a special exhibit that she wanted to see.  As you can tell, I didn't pay too much attention to what it was.  Lol.  History is not my forte.  Sorry (good thing I have my husband for all that)!  We did go in with her to look, but  I the kids weren't too interested so I took them outside to let them run around for a while.  After all, they had been cooped up in the car for 2 1/2 hours.

I saw Big Sam!  Wait.  Oh, we're in Austin, not Huntsville.  I saw Little Sam! ;)

The kids playing in the courtyard in front of the Capital.

Playing Hide and Go Seek.
Once Danni was out of class, we picked her up and went to see her apartment.  It was so cute.  And much better looking than anything I ever lived in in my college days.  Lol!
We then walked down to do a little shopping.  We hit up the Co-Op of course and found some UT gear for the kids.  And I almost bought Sophie a pair of Toms... but maybe next year!  :)

Then we got the car and went to South Congress.  I had recently seen a candy/soda shop on one of the food or travel channels (can't remember which one) that was in Austin.  I wanted to see if we could find it and take the kids there.  I'm so glad that we went.  Even though I had lived in Austin for a few months I had never been to this area.  It is so cool!!!!  It has all kinds of restaurants, stores, and little shops.  And we did find the candy/soda shop... It's called Big Top Candy Shop!  They have all kinds of candy (of course) including homemade candy like chocolate covered bacon!  Omg!  Can you imagine?!?  They are also known for their sodas.  I had one that was recommended and it was DE-LISH!!!  Definitely going back for more someday!

The atmosphere was too neat.  Definitely felt like I stepped back in time to the 1950's!  So cool!

Next it was onto this place across the street...

Um, yeah.  Can you say, "Can I have another?"  I had the best carrot cake cupcake from here!  Scrumptious!!  Craving another one right now.  And how cute is this little roadside cupcakery??  Apparently there are a few of them throughout the city.  Great idea I might add.
From there we made a quick trip to the mall for Danni to pick out her birthday purse :) and then we went to have dinner together before we had to leave for home.  We chose to eat at the Hula Hut.  It's on the water and has a very laid-back, cool atmosphere.  No pics were taken while we were there though- guess I was too busy eating!  Lol!

We had a great day trip!  I <3 Austin!
