Day Trip to Austin

The kids and I made a day trip to Austin with Aunt Becky to visit Danni.  The following week was her 21st Birthday (holla!), I hadn't seen her apartment yet, and it sounded like something fun to do!

So we set off at about 10ish.  We couldn't leave too early because it was the middle of the week and Danni does have classes still.  :)

Becky wanted to hit up one of the museums while we waited for Danni to get out of class.  They were having a special exhibit that she wanted to see.  As you can tell, I didn't pay too much attention to what it was.  Lol.  History is not my forte.  Sorry (good thing I have my husband for all that)!  We did go in with her to look, but  I the kids weren't too interested so I took them outside to let them run around for a while.  After all, they had been cooped up in the car for 2 1/2 hours.

I saw Big Sam!  Wait.  Oh, we're in Austin, not Huntsville.  I saw Little Sam! ;)

The kids playing in the courtyard in front of the Capital.

Playing Hide and Go Seek.
Once Danni was out of class, we picked her up and went to see her apartment.  It was so cute.  And much better looking than anything I ever lived in in my college days.  Lol!
We then walked down to do a little shopping.  We hit up the Co-Op of course and found some UT gear for the kids.  And I almost bought Sophie a pair of Toms... but maybe next year!  :)

Then we got the car and went to South Congress.  I had recently seen a candy/soda shop on one of the food or travel channels (can't remember which one) that was in Austin.  I wanted to see if we could find it and take the kids there.  I'm so glad that we went.  Even though I had lived in Austin for a few months I had never been to this area.  It is so cool!!!!  It has all kinds of restaurants, stores, and little shops.  And we did find the candy/soda shop... It's called Big Top Candy Shop!  They have all kinds of candy (of course) including homemade candy like chocolate covered bacon!  Omg!  Can you imagine?!?  They are also known for their sodas.  I had one that was recommended and it was DE-LISH!!!  Definitely going back for more someday!

The atmosphere was too neat.  Definitely felt like I stepped back in time to the 1950's!  So cool!

Next it was onto this place across the street...

Um, yeah.  Can you say, "Can I have another?"  I had the best carrot cake cupcake from here!  Scrumptious!!  Craving another one right now.  And how cute is this little roadside cupcakery??  Apparently there are a few of them throughout the city.  Great idea I might add.
From there we made a quick trip to the mall for Danni to pick out her birthday purse :) and then we went to have dinner together before we had to leave for home.  We chose to eat at the Hula Hut.  It's on the water and has a very laid-back, cool atmosphere.  No pics were taken while we were there though- guess I was too busy eating!  Lol!

We had a great day trip!  I <3 Austin!

Dynamo Futbol

It was a first for me and the kids... A MLS game!  Go Dynamo!!!!  I'll admit, I'm not a huge fan of soccer, but being there makes you a fan.  Lol!  The crowd really gets into the game- there's music from drums and horns, people constantly cheering, and streamers being randomly thrown around- even onto the field.  It's pretty neat!

Before the game, we tailgated with some friends.  Zach & Sophie sharing a burger!  Lol!
Silly girl... I think she was pouting about something.

Little monkeys.  I love them so much!

Rodeo Carnival

It's Spring Break!!  One thing that always coincides with Spring Break is the Houston Rodeo.  I just love the Rodeo- the trail rides, the cook-off (even though I haven't been in years), the performances, the carnival, oh and the food.  How can I forget about the food? - just fun!  And it usually marks the warmer Spring weather also!

Sandra and I decided to take the kids to the carnival.  Mine are still a little too young to enjoy the actual Rodeo part, so I thought the carnival would be just right for them this year.  Of course we took them during the day so not to be too too crowded.  :)

Zach and Sophie had an absolute blast!!  Too bad the tickets were limited!!  Lol!  They would have stayed and ridden every ride that they could!!  :)  And they keep asking when we can go back!  Maybe we will try the whole Rodeo experience next year... we'll see.  ;)

P.S. I did get to see a performance this year.  Some girlfriends and I had a Girl's night and saw Sugarland.  It was a good show!  No pics though!  :(

Gabe's 31st Birthday!

Thanks to having a niece in town, Gabe & I were able to go out and celebrate his birthday with a few friends.  We went to Midtown and bar hopped.  Hadn't done that in a long while!  :)

Happy Birthday, Honey!!  I love you!!

Javi's Barber Shop

Javi came for a visit and was nice enough to cut Gabe's and the kid's hair!  Of course Gabe had to go first to set the example.  Zach isn't scared anymore, but I didn't know how he would feel about getting it done.  And in our bathroom for that matter.  Lol!  And I really didn't think Sophie would want to do it, but she surprised me.  This was her first hair "trim."  I'm trying to grow her bangs out and it seems to be taking a while.  1. because it needs a trim and 2. she keeps growing new hair around her face it seems.  But it definitely needed to be evened out.  Remember those times when she would twist and twirl her hair around her finger?  And it would end up in a knot sometimes?  And then I would have to cut the knot out?  Yeah... that's why it needed to be evened out!  Lol!
Thanks Cousin Javi!!

Update On School/Work

I realized that I haven't blogged about our schedules and Gabe's current semester in school yet.  Here we are already at the end of February and I haven't written anything about this BEING GABE'S LAST SEMESTER!!!!!!!  CAN I GET A AMEN, HALLELUJAH, HOT DAMN, AND HIGH FIVE???!!!???!!!

Can you tell that I'm just a little excited?  Lol!!  Gabe is excited too, but he is just a little more calm about it.  Ha!  He says that he will be more excited once THE day gets here and it seems more real.  I don't blame him there.  He still has a lot of reading, studying, projects, papers, and tests to complete before G-Day gets here!  But we are pumped, to say the least.

I am so proud of my hubby.  He is so smart and works so hard and still takes care of us.  It has been challenging at times, but all of his hard work and patience is paying off!

Now because this is Gabe's last semester and he didn't have many options of when he could take his last few classes, he goes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  Do we know what this means?  I have to work on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  Mondays and Wednesdays I am there by myself all day.  It's not bad except that Mondays are usually one of our busiest days of the week!!!  And I have to do it all by myself!  Eeek!  This may sound funny, but I get nervous every Monday morning because I don't know what to expect when I walk in the door.  How many reservations popped up overnight for these last minute business people that remember, "oh, I'm going out of town tomorrow morning... I need a rental car!"  Yeah, it can be pretty crazy at times.  Wednesdays aren't too bad and Friday mornings I'm by myself until Gabe gets there around 11ish.  We make it work!  Thank God for this flexible job that allows Gabe to finish his degree and allows me to stay home with my babies a few days a week!  :)

The countdown is on people!  MAY 13th... G-DAY!!!!!!!  :)

Happy Valentine's Day

Nothing says "I Love You" like heart shaped pancakes!  :)

I hope you all got some L-O-V-E!!

Desperate Times Call For Desperate Measures

And this is what happens when Baby Girl is sick, Dad HAS to go to school, and Mom cannot call in to work... Poor baby. :(  But we made it work!  Not sure what she had, but with a fever she couldn't go to school.  And if I did take her to school then they would have called me anyway.  So we just played it safe!

Yo Quiero Taco Bell

This picture cracks me up.  Everytime.  :)

Story Time

Cousin Lauren got to come to Sophie's party with Papo & Grandma BB.  We were so excited that she could make the trip and come to the party.  We don't get to see her very often so we were very happy to see her!  And she also got to spend the night.  Before bedtime, Papo read the girls a story.

Little Love Bugs

These two are just soo funny!!  After the party festivities were over, a few friends stayed so that the kids could play longer and also so that the adults could "play."  :)  Dane & Sophie decided to watch a movie.  In my room.  On my bed.  Lol!!  Good thing they are not teenagers... THIS WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED!!  Lol!  But they are the cutest!
